Acoustic Housing for Diesel & Gas Generators
Generator Soundproof Enclosure
Purpose-built acoustic enclosures for diesel, gas, and dual-fuel generators from 20 kVA to 2,000 kVA. Noise reduction of 35–45 dB(A) brings generator sets below local noise ordinance limits. Weatherproof, ventilated, and available with ATEX Zone 2 certification.

Overview
Generator noise is one of the most common sources of neighbourhood and workplace noise complaints — and one of the most avoidable. The HEMU Acoustics Generator Soundproof Enclosure is engineered specifically for standby and prime power generator sets, delivering 35–45 dB(A) noise attenuation without restricting the generator's cooling, exhaust, or maintenance access.
Enclosure walls use a 100 mm acoustic panel construction: perforated steel outer skin, mineral wool infill, mass-loaded vinyl membrane, and perforated steel inner skin with acoustic foam facing. This assembly achieves Rw 40–48 dB depending on panel thickness and configuration, verified to ISO 3744 outdoor measurement methodology.
Ventilation is one of the most critical design challenges in generator enclosures. The HEMU system uses acoustically baffled intake and exhaust ducts sized to the generator's combustion air and radiator airflow requirements. Duct baffles provide an additional 15–20 dB(A) attenuation on the ventilation path without restricting airflow.
All enclosures are weatherproof to IP54 as standard (IP65 available) for outdoor installation. Anti-corrosion treatment and powder-coat finish in any RAL color are standard. Access doors with acoustic seals provide maintenance access on two or three sides depending on generator layout. Cable entry glands, exhaust silencer flanges, and fuel line pass-throughs are factory-fitted to customer specification.
Key Features
35–45 dB(A) Attenuation
100 mm composite wall panels with mineral wool, MLV membrane, and acoustic foam facing. Verified to ISO 3744 free-field measurement. Brings a 95 dB(A) generator set below 55 dB(A) at 1 metre — compliant with most municipal noise ordinances.
Acoustically Baffled Ventilation
Purpose-designed intake and exhaust ducts with splitter baffles, sized to the generator's combustion air volume and radiator airflow rate. Adds 15–20 dB(A) attenuation on the ventilation path without airflow restriction.
IP54 / IP65 Weatherproofing
All panels, joints, and penetrations are sealed to IP54 (dust-protected, splash-resistant) as standard. IP65 full weatherproof option available for exposed coastal or high-rainfall environments.
ATEX Zone 2 Option
Enclosure variants certified for installation in ATEX Zone 2 hazardous areas (IIC T3). Suitable for gas generators in petrochemical, refinery, and offshore applications.
Full Maintenance Access
Wide acoustic-sealed access doors on two or three sides allow full access to the generator for servicing without disassembling the enclosure. Door positions and sizes are customised to each generator layout.
Custom-Built to Specification
All enclosures are designed and fabricated to the specific generator model, site layout, and acoustic target. Exhaust flanges, cable glands, fuel line ports, control panel windows, and load bank connections are factory-fitted.
