Acoustic Drum Practice Enclosure

Soundproof Drum Booth

A reinforced soundproof drum booth engineered specifically for acoustic drum kits. The combination of STC 50 composite wall panels, a decoupled floating floor, and continuous mechanical ventilation makes genuine acoustic drum practice possible in residential and commercial buildings without neighbour complaints.

Overview

Acoustic drums generate peak SPL levels of 115–130 dB(A) — far exceeding the noise reduction achievable by standard office pods. The HEMU Acoustics Soundproof Drum Booth is engineered for this extreme load with a purpose-designed acoustic system.

The primary wall assembly uses a double-leaf composite panel (STC 50, Rw 50 dB) incorporating mass-loaded vinyl between two isolated panel leaves separated by a resilient mount air gap. This decoupled wall construction addresses both airborne sound transmission and structure-borne vibration simultaneously.

The floating floor system uses a 40 mm rubber isolator layer beneath an 18 mm MDF structural deck, breaking the direct impact transmission path to the building slab. Combined with drum riser isolation pads under the kit's bass drum and hi-hat stand, total impact noise at the building structure is reduced to levels compatible with residential floor criteria.

The interior dimensions (2.5 m × 2.5 m) accommodate a full five-piece drum kit with a drummer and, optionally, an observer/producer. Continuous mechanical ventilation maintains ≥ 30 l/s fresh air for extended practice — critical given the physical exertion of drumming and the heat generated in a sealed enclosure.

Heavy-duty double-door entry (900 mm clear width) with acoustic seals allows equipment and kit transport without disassembly.
