Overview

Industrial machinery noise is among the most significant occupational health challenges in manufacturing. Sustained exposure above 85 dB(A) causes noise-induced hearing loss, increases accident risk, and creates regulatory liability. The HEMU Acoustics Industrial Acoustic Enclosure is engineered to control machinery noise at source — the most cost-effective and acoustically efficient approach.

Each industrial enclosure is custom-designed around the specific machinery type, noise source characterisation, and required insertion loss (IL). For machines with broadband noise spectra (CNC machining centres, injection moulding presses, metal punches), our standard composite panel system achieves 25–35 dB IL across the 500 Hz–4 kHz octave bands. For tonal noise sources (gearboxes, hydraulic power units, high-speed spindles), tuned mass-damped panels or tuned resonant absorbers are specified to target the dominant frequency.

The enclosure structure uses 120 mm double-leaf acoustic panels with mineral wool infill and mass-loaded vinyl (MLV) facing on the internal leaf — maximising transmission loss while limiting panel thickness and structural weight load on existing machine guards and frames. Panels are bolted to a structural steel angle frame that mounts directly to the machine base, existing enclosure rails, or a freestanding floor frame.

Service access is maintained through acoustically treated hinged or sliding doors (up to 1200 mm × 2100 mm clear opening), flush-mounted inspection windows, glove-box ports for manual operations, and service hatches for coolant lines, pneumatic hoses, chip extraction, and electrical conduit. Ventilation openings are fitted with lined acoustic baffles or reactive silencers to maintain airflow without compromising enclosure IL.
